Hi, I’m Tien!
I am a User Experience Designer passionate about translating business and user needs into easy-to-use and aesthetic digital experiences. Specifically, I am interested in usability, accessibility, and mobile interfaces. Born and raised in Hampton, Virginia, I grew up with a unique view of the world, being a first-generation Asian American. Through my friends and family, I have learned that everyone's journey is different, and it's essential to be open and aware of everyone's perspectives.
I didn't know I wanted to go into design initially. Growing up in an immigrant family, I always thought I had to be either a lawyer, an engineer, or a doctor, as funny as that sounds. I was drawn to technology, so I took the engineering path in college. After two years, I found a love for design after taking an HCI in Software Development course. I have always loved interacting with people since I was a child, so combining that with technology to create experiences that help enhance people's lives sparked my interest in becoming an impactful designer.
I am currently pursuing my next role in user experience design. I have a strong design background with a Master’s in Human-Computer Interaction at the University of Maryland College Park, and technical experience with a Bachelor’s in Computer Science at the University of Virginia. I aim to be a designer who positively impacts the world through design, and I look forward to any opportunities to do this!
If I’m not doing something UX-related, you’ll probably see me working out at the gym, enjoying the outdoors, or building a new keyboard.
